Congress Leader Renuka Chowdhury has been booked by the police over accusations of assaulting a policeman. A video of Renuka Chowdhury grabbing a policeman by the collar has gone viral and is circulating on all social media platforms.
Renuka Chowdhury is a congress leader who hails from Vishakhapatnam,Andhra Pradesh. She is the daughter of Air Commodore Suryanarayana Rao and Vasundhara. Eldest of three daughters, she completed her education in the Welham Girls' School, Dehradun, and went on to do B.A. in Industrial Psychology from Bangalore University. She has been an active member of the Indian National Congress since 1984 and has served in the Rajya Sabha. She has served in several other positions in her political career including, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Women and Child Development and Tourism.
Congress Leader Renuka Chowdhury Booked by Police Among Others
On June 16, the Hyderabad Police booked Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha Minister Renuka Chowdhury among 200 others for unlawfully gathering to conduct a protest near the V.V. Statue in Khairthabad of Telangana. A protest was held in support of Rahul Gandhi, amidst his ongoing investigation in the National Herald Case.
Renuka Chowdhury reportedly got into a heated argument with a policeman and was seen grabbing him by the collar. The policeman in question is Sub-Inspector (SI) S. Upender Babu of PS Panjagutta, and Renuka Chowdhury has been now booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code including those of assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty). The video is now viral and circulating all over the internet. Reports reveal that three cases have been registered against Renuka Chowdhury.
However, Renuka Chowdhury denied assaulting the police officer, saying, “I know how to respect the uniform, my intention is not to humiliate the police…They were pushing me, I have a problem with my leg. I was losing my balance so I fell on him like that. I don’t know that young man, of course, I’ll apologize to that man. But I expect Police to apologize to me for manhandling us. Why were there so many men Police around us?” The investigation into the case is ongoing.
