Ripped Jeans Remark: The Congress party has now demanded an apology from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat over his sexist remark on ripped jeans.
They said that Rawat ought to either apologise to the country's women, or resign from his post.
Tirath Singh Rawat's ripped jeans remark causes an uproar in the Congress
Earlier, Tirath Singh Rawat had said that he was shocked to see women in ripped jeans. Congress's chief spokesperson and general secretary Randeep Surjewala said that Rawat represented the 'anti-women' face of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief ministers Yogi Adityanath and Manohar Lal Khattar have made similar comments on women in the past.
"We demand on behalf of the daughters and women of the country that such a chief minister should apologise or resign, because this mentality will not work anymore. Those having thoughts of the 16th century do not have the right to rule India in the 21st century. They would have to go now and this is patriotism," he said.
Priyanka Gandhi, the general secretary of the Congress also criticised Rawat's sexist remark on ripped jeans. She posted a collage containing pictures of Narendra Modi, Nitin Gadkari and Mohan Bhagwat wearing khaki shorts on Twitter. "Oh my God!!! Their knees are showing," she wrote against the collage.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Alka Lamba also saud that the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have made sexist remarks in the past. She clearly stated that the Congress is strongly against this kind of sexism, and that the country's women will take to the streets to "expose the BJP leaders and their mindset."
