Sanjay Rajoura MeToo case: Comedian and satirist Sanjay Rajoura on Thursday responded to anonymous #MeToo allegations that have surfaced against him on social media by an Instagram account accusing him of sexual misconduct. He says he has "always shown utmost respect for the MeToo movement" and that the posts against him "have no iota of truth."
In a Facebook post, Rajoura, one member of the Aisi Taisi Democracy comedy group trio, writes, "I have all the proof and evidences to counter this malicious post and will be happy to provide it to any fair investigation agency."
An Instagram account named @metoo_tara, in two posts made September 22, alleges Rajoura coerced her for sex, suggested self-harm, asked for nude pictures and violated consent. Read more here. The bio of the account identifies the accuser only as one Tara who wants to be anonymous.
"...this account is to share some of the experiences I have had with an individual," it adds.
Sanjay Rajoura MeToo Case: Comedian Says He Has "Nothing To Hide"
Acknowledging it is "excruciating" for women in India to come forward with their sexual harassment experiences, Rajoura writes that while he isn't questioning a survivor's right to remain anonymous, he points out the Instagram account saying "they DON'T want to give any proof."
"In this condition, how can any one come to any conclusion about veracity of the post. There should be at least the minimum measure of transparency."
The account makes serious allegations against Rajoura, from claiming the comedian made them delete chats to recording them in compromising positions. Tara maintains they stayed in touch with Rajoura despite his allegedly problematic behaviour. "As the realization set in, I began to wonder if anyone at all would believe my word against someone with such influence in both media and politics, especially someone who has displayed strong gender politics," the account writes.
Rajoura in his post writes, "My principles are very clear and transparent," adding that he will continue to stand in solidarity with the #MeToo movement. "I just hope there is fair investigation about the same."
