A horrifying incident occurred near Aurobindo College in Delhi's Malviya Nagar, where a young college student lost her life after a brutal attack with a rod.

The victim, identified as Nargis graduated from Kamala Nehru College earlier this year, and was enjoying a day at the park when tragedy struck.

Police said that the accused, Irfan, had planned the murder three days ago and also knew her daily schedule. He knew that she crosses the park every day while going to her stenography classes.

"The accused has claimed that he took the iron rod, which was used in the crime, from his house. He further claimed that he tried to approach the woman on Monday also, but could not meet her that day due to some reasons. We are verifying his claims," police said.

According to the cops, the girl and her family had rejected the marriage proposal of the accused. Police further added that Irfan asked the girl to come to Vijay Mandal Park to talk. When the girl arrived at the spot, he allegedly bludgeoned her to death with an iron rod he was hiding.

The victim and accused were first cousins - their mothers being sisters. According to reports, Irfan, 28, used to live with Nargis' family five-six years ago but was asked to leave after he allegedly started harassing Nargis.

The authorities were alerted when the lifeless body of the young woman was discovered near the picturesque Aurobindo College in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar. 

Upon arrival at the scene, South Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chandan Choudhary, stated that the victim had sustained severe injuries to her head and was found lying near an iron rod, believed to be the weapon used in the heinous act.

As the news spread, shock and sorrow engulfed the college community and beyond. The loss of a promising young life has left family, friends, and fellow students devastated and seeking justice.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal slammed the state of law and order in the city following the incident and urged the Union home minister and the Lieutenant Governor to take strict measures.

"Another daughter was brutally murdered in Delhi, it is very sad. Law and order has become a serious issue in Delhi. It is a request to the LG and the Home Minister, to make the police a little active. The safety of the daughters of Delhi and the people of Delhi is very important," he tweeted.

"We received information that the body of a 25-year-old girl was found near Aurobindo College in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar. She had come to the park with her friend. There are injuries on the deceased's head. An iron rod was found near her body," revealed DCP Chandan Choudhary, emphasising the significance of the evidence collected at the scene.

The incident has sparked concern among residents and raised questions about safety in public spaces. Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police immediately.

As the investigation unfolds, the grieving family and friends of the victim are calling for a swift resolution and a stringent legal response against the perpetrator. They remember the young woman as a bright and ambitious individual, with dreams of a promising future ahead.
