Punjagutta Police have arrested four women on Sunday for allegedly stripping and assaulting fellow bar dancer at Begumpet area of Hyderabad for rejecting to indulge in paid sexual activities, India Today reported. “Sometime after her joining, the management of the bar started harassing her to visit customers and perform sexual activities,” a police official was quoted as telling news agency ANI.
Apart from the four women—Ritika, Sweety, Rekha and Vijaya Reddy—who are arrested, one male customer named Syed also joined them in attacking the woman but he is on the run. The 25-year-old dancer filed a police complaint against them for dragging her out and stripped her on the main road in Shamshabad.
“Because I refused the pub management’s directions to entertain customers by performing sexual acts, four women colleagues, also bar dancers, dragged me out and stripped me,” the woman alleged, Scroll.in reported. “Later, the miscreants assaulted me brutally, along with Syed.”

She went to the police station in torn up clothes but claimed that their ‘compassion’ towards her was lacking. “After I approached the Panjagutta police, with help from customers, the cops collected details from me and said they would look into the matter,” she added. “Minutes later, four persons who assaulted me also came to the station, and the police had friendly discussions with them.”

She told the police that she joined the Lisbon Restrobar as a bar dancer in January and that earlier she was working as a junior artiste in Tollywood but left it because of lack of opportunities. The management was allegedly forcing and harassing her to extend sexual favours to the costumers.
“After I approached the Panjagutta police, with help from customers, the cops collected details from me and said they would look into the matter,” she added. “Minutes later, four persons who assaulted me also came to the station, and the police had friendly discussions with them.”
The bar management denied the claims of the woman and said that the matter happened outside the premises of the restaurant. Reports say that the staff has allegedly threatened the woman not to lodge a police complaint.
The police have booked the accused persons under Indian Penal Code sections 354 (using criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Mahender Reddy, Director General of Police (DGP) Telangana has sought a detailed report from the Circle Officer, Panjagutta regarding the incident, The Tribune quoted.
The woman also contended that the Punjagutta police also collects bribe from the bar management even though bar dances are illegal in Hyderabad. West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police AR Srinivas said he would “inquire into” her allegations against the policemen.
