Coimbatore's Srividya reportedly has been donating her breast milk over a period of seven months which was in turn used to feed at least 2,500 babies. She started donating five days after the birth of her second child. Her noble cause entered her in the India Book of Records 2022 by donating 105 liters of breast milk for seven months.

 Breast Milk Donation Record

Srividya set a record for donating 105 liters. Her spouse Bhairav supported her social cause when she expressed her wish to donate her breast milk to children in need. Together the couple has two kids - a 10-month-old daughter and a four-year-old son. Bhairav looked up information regarding breast milk donation and helped with the process. She donated milk to the Amirtham Breast Milk Donation camp – an NGO in the Tirupur district with a doctor's assistance.

NGO asked Srividya to gather her breast milk and preserved it, at the breast milk bank in Coimbatore and later provided it to newborns mothers who have either died or are unable to care for them. Her breast milk was added to the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital’s breast milk bank where it is provided to infants with low birth weight, as per Srividya.

She said, “Many kids struggle because they don’t get enough breast milk. This is especially true for newborns delivered every day at government hospitals. Some kids are confined to incubators as they are underweight and I wanted to help and urge more women from this generation to come forward and donate breast milk to help save lives."

Earlier, Sindhu Monica from Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district created a record of donating 42 liters of breast milk in seven months. The Guinness World Record is held by Alyse Ogletree of North Texas, who donated 1,569.79 liters in Texas, USA between January 11, 2011, and 25 March 2014.
