After four weeks of absence, Amanpour returned to her daily international news program, beginning with this personal update on Monday. She said she was confident in her road to recovery and was grateful to the health workers treating her. Amanpour is based in London.

"I've had successful major surgery to remove it, and I'm now undergoing several months of chemotherapy for the very best possible long-term prognosis, and I'm confident," she said.

Giving a shoutout to "early diagnosis," she urged "women to educate themselves on this disease; to get all the regular screenings and scans that you can; to always listen to your bodies, and of course to ensure that your legitimate medical concerns are not dismissed or diminished."

"Objectivity doesn't mean treating all sides equally. It means giving each side a hearing": Christiane Amanpour

She has been with CNN for long years, first from 1983 to 2010 and then again from 2012 to the present. Her first stint wasn't just significant in bringing her to global notice, but also propelled the news network to a new status of journalistic coverage.

This came about especially during the 1990s when Amanpour memorably covered the Persian Gulf War and thereon, the Bosnian War, the Israel-Palestine issue and other international conflicts.

She has exclusively interviewed global figures, among them country leaders and leading film personalities. Amanpour briefly hosted This Week on ABC but returned to CNN in two years. In a special arrangement, the journalist is currently attached with both channels.
