After attending the 132nd Manipur Police Raising Day, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced that the state will soon see its separate women's police battalion force.
Acknowledging the crucial role of police in maintaining law and order, combat crime and giving citizens a sense of safety, the CM revealed that setting up the women's police battalion unit was in the works and it will prove to be an important step in strengthening the police force in the state.
Manipur CM Announces Women's Police Battalion
On October 19, Manipur celebrated 132 years of its police force commemorating a grand ceremony of its 132nd Police Raising Day marking a new year of state's law enforcement. The ceremony, which was attended by many significant dignitaries, is now grabbing attention owing to the promises made by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
Calling the women's battalion a very important addition to the state's law enforcement, the CM said the government is making major efforts to strengthen the police force and take care of their welfare. A separate women's battalion, added, would be a significant move towards gender equality amongst the police force and create space for more women to consider the services.
The force will help to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for young girls and women who need a safe space to report crimes or seek help from the police.
It can also provide a role model for young girls and show them that they can pursue any career they want, including one in law enforcement and would aid in reducing gender-based violence and discrimination in the state.
