14-Year-Old Gangrape Survivor Ends Life, Suicide Notes Helps Identify Accused Men

Four men allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl in a village of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on April 1, Thursday. She committed suicide hours after the rape and was taken to a hospital instantly. However, she died later in the night, as reported by the police.

The class 10 student was on her way back from tuition, which was a short distance from her house. She was preparing to sit for the upcoming class 10 board examinations in Uttar Pradesh. The accused persons allegedly abducted her on her way back, took her to a secluded location and allegedly raped her.

She died by suicide after coming back home by consuming poison. She was immediately taken to a local hospital by her family and was later shifted to another hospital as her condition deteriorated. She succumbed to death in a city hospital in Meerut.

"Two of the four accused, said to be 18 or 19 years old, have been arrested," Meerut’s Superintendent of Police Keshav Mishra said.

A suicide note was discovered from her room in which she informed about the crime against her and identified the four youth responsible for the same.

A similar incident from Uttar Pradesh was reported recently when a 15-year-old minor set herself ablaze after being allegedly harassed by a boy. She poured inflammable oil on herself and caught fire. She was rushed to a hospital where she died with severe burns and injuries.  The accused was 15-year-old. The girl's family refrained from filing a case against the accused, however, they took matters into their own hands by beating up the 16-year-old minor for the alleged harassment.
