CID inspired Minors kill woman: Two minor boys aged 16 and 14 were detained by Pune City Police for allegedly killing a 70-year-old woman. As per reports, the accused were inspired by the crime drama CID.
The deceased woman has been identified as Shalini Babanrao Sonawane. She was reportedly found dead with an injury in her head at her house in the Sayali apartment of Hingne Khurd on October 30. Virat Sonawane filed a complaint at the Sinhagad police station.
According to the police, gold jewellery and money worth Rs 1.6 Lakh were stolen from Sonawane's house. At first the complaint was lodged under unknown persons as accused. The charges mentioned in the case are Sections 359 and 459 of the Indian Penal Code. Police inspectors Devidas Ghevare and Pramod Waghmare launched a probe in the case. They released a press statement on Wednesday that they were clueless about the culprits even after 48 hours of the alleged murder.
As per a report, police officer named Ujjwal Mokashi found out from some children who used to play near a temple close to the crime spot that two of their friends rushed home in a hurry and did not stay for their plans to eat snacks on October 30. After investigating further, the police reportedly found out CCTV footage of the said teenage duo moving around in a suspicious manner in the area. After questioning them, the police detained the minor boys.
The police said, “Probe revealed that one of the minor boys had a history of committing theft. The two boys knew the deceased woman well and often visited her residence. They knew where the old woman was keeping her money and ornaments."
They added that the minor accused boys allegedly committed the crime by copying the tricks they learnt from watching the crime drama CID. According to the police, the minors reached the old woman's house around 1:30 pm on October 30 with an intent to rob her. The woman was then alone in her house and was watching television.
The minors allegedly attacked the woman all of sudden and gagged her which led to her death. They then allegedly took Rs 93,000 cash and Rs 67,500 gold ornaments from her house and fled the scene, as per the police statement. The police also added that the minors had used hand gloves in order to avoid leaving any fingerprints. It was something they had learnt watching CID.
The officials were able to recover the stolen goods from the minor accused and have sent them to remand as they cannot be arrested.
