A 15-year-old girl was reportedly hacked to death with an axe in a village in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh. Her four-year-old nephew was also attacked by unidentified persons.
The girl was reportedly returning home after delivering food to her father in the field on Thursday when the unfortunate incident happened. She was accompanied by her nephew who was also badly injured by the attackers. The Circle Officer, Subodh Gautam, revealed the details in a statement.
The nephew was rushed to the hospital but did not survive "The body of the girl was found in a village. She was hacked to death with an axe," Superintendent of Police Ankit Mittal informed.
Meanwhile, the girl's family has alleged that she was raped before being murdered. However, no confirmation has come with regards to this allegation. Only after the post-mortem examination, further details can be established.

On January 12, a minor girl of age 15-16 years was allegedly gangraped and murdered in Aligarh. Three men named as accused were booked under the POCSO Act.
In another gruelling incident, a 50-year-old Anganwadi worker was allegedly gangraped and murdered reportedly at a place of worship earlier this month. This was reported from Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh
There were several acts of injustice against women that were reported from the state during this month alone. All these unfortunate events indicate that the safety of women is still at stake.
According to the NCRB report, the crime against women in India has increased by 7.3 per cent in the year 2019. 84 cases of rape happened every year with one case being reported every 15 to 16 minutes. Uttar Pradesh ranked the highest by recording 14.7 per cent of the total rate of the crime against woman. It also reported a significant number of criminal cases under the POSCO act for the crimes committed against minor girls in the state which was as high as 7,444 cases.
