According to the South China Morning Post, a female employee of a government-affiliated institute has been charged with poisoning a pregnant colleague to refrain her from taking maternity leave. The alleged accused woman was afraid that the victim's maternity leave would overburden her with a workload that she would not be able to handle alone.

Chinese Woman Spikes a Pregnant Colleague's Drink For Maternity Leave

A woman in Hubei province, China, has been arrested and charged after allegedly spiking her pregnant colleague's drink in an attempt to prevent her from taking maternity leave.  According to the reports, the pregnant woman began noticing a strange taste in her water bottle on several occasions in the office. Suspecting it to be the office's water supply, she switched to boiled water, bringing it from her own house. However, the strange taste persisted, which grew the woman's suspicions of foul play as a colleague joked that someone might have tampered with her water bottle.

The woman then set up a hidden camera to monitor her desk, placing a hidden iPad to catch the culprit, if any. To her shock, the trick worked as she allegedly captured one of her own colleagues tampering with her water bottle, adding an unknown substance.

The video of the same has gone viral on the mainland's popular social media site, Weibo. The suspect, identified only by her surname Liu, was captured in her vile act wearing a black West, approaching a working desk, and quickly mixing a powder-like substance into a water bottle.

The victim immediately confronted Liu and reported the incident to the authorities. Thankfully, she did not experience any health problems. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact substance used and the potential harm it could have caused.
