In a step taken after nearly three decades, China has now revised the women's protection law in the country effective immediately. The law is titled 'Women's Rights and Interests Protection Law' and it aims at enabling implementations that can guarantee women's safety, honour and personal rights. Several people from across the country sent in their suggestions to the government through official channels hence leading the charge to what can be seen as a monumental change towards better protection of women’s rights.

China women protection law
1. The new law is titled Women's Rights and Interests Protection Law. This is a historic decision in the country as it's the first time in almost thirty years that the law has been revised in the interest of women.
2. The bill was handed over to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress party Party (NPC) soon after the revision and the NPC later announced on its website that they had passed the legislation.
3. The legislation passed on Sunday aims to provide women more protection than earlier against atrocities including discrimination and sexual harassment.
4. The bill was finally passed after a third revision which insightfully carried a huge input from the public and extensive research.
5. The legislation came into existence after several activists voiced their concern over the glorified traditional roles for women which most people considered huge setbacks for women's personal rights.
6. Another major concern expressed was the restrictive attitudes of the country as a whole when it came to abortion and the abortion rights of women.
7. While it is unclear to what extent the conservative attitudes will be changed and implemented post the new law, the nation is celebrating the new agenda.
8. According to reports, the official news in China Xinhua stated that the legislation will strengthen the protection of rights and interests of all disadvantaged groups of women including elderly women, poor women and disabled women.
9. The law declares that all employers who violate women's labour and social security rights will be held accountable. Xinhua also stated that the local authorities will also be thoroughly instructed and made aware of their duties of rescuing trafficked ad abducted women in a way that does not violate their rights.
10. The revised law is the outcome of the amalgamation of several factors. Earlier this year, the online image of a trafficked woman in chains in China caused a huge stir in the country around the management of human trafficking and human rights, especially in areas where such issues have been prevalent for too long. Apart from this, many women voiced their opinion on the setbacks they have had due to overriding expectations and assumptions of traditional roles they were supposed to adhere to.
