In a disappointing incident, a woman in China was forced to take a loan and get a nose job done by her employer. Initially, the woman worked as a receptionist at a company that specialised in cosmetic surgery. However, later she was made to sign an employment contract in which she was pressured to take a loan and get her nose job done. Read on to learn more.
According to the reports, she started working as a receptionist on November 21. The woman claims that she was caught in a fraud scheme orchestrated by her employers. She said that initially, she was inquired about her interest in cosmetic surgeries during her interview. This seemed normal to her because she related it to the fact that the company specialised in cosmetic surgeries.
I did not get time to refuse, woman claims
However, later when she signed an employment contract, two staff members pressured her to get a nose job done to enhance her career prospects. Even though the woman expressed that she was financially incapable of the surgery as she had just finished her graduation, the company continued the pressure and ultimately made her take a loan of 25,000 yuan.
She was made to schedule an appointment at a different clinic and was given a loan with a repayment period of 2 years.
"Everything happened so quickly that I did not even get a chance to refuse," the woman said.
And when the woman returned post-surgery, her position was changed from receptionist to consultant. She was frequently criticised by her colleagues too.
"The company did not need a receptionist, and I believe the job offer was bait to lure me into taking out a loan for the surgery. After the treatment, they started finding reasons to fire me," the woman claimed.
The woman said that she was blamed for sabotaging potential clients and causing a money loss to the company.
Eventually, the woman put down her papers on December 10 and got only 690 yuan for her service.
What does this tell us?
What does the treatment meted out to the woman in the workplace tell us? Women are not seen as potential employees but as faces used to fish customers. Especially, the cosmetic industry uses women only as faces to sell their services. They brainwash women into believing that they are not good enough and that they need cosmetic changes.
I have often heard people saying that women get jobs as receptionists or saleswomen so that they can fish customers using their looks, and not talent. How gross this is! Women's identity is not only about their looks, face colour or shape. They have degrees, talents and dreams that make them suitable for a job.
Especially, in the case of the Chinese woman, she was told that a nose job would improve her career prospects. But actually, it was just a web to sell the service as she was not at all valued as an employee.
Cosmetic industries need to understand that cosmetic changes are matters of choice. No one can coerce a woman to undergo a nose job to improve anything in their life. Career, relationships or personal lives do not depend on cosmetic looks. So stop fooling women by selling such ideas.
