Child Care Allowance Doubled For Women Govt Staff With Disabilities

There's some good news for women government employees with disabilities. The Centre has doubled their child care allowance to Rs 3,000 per month.

Till now, the employees used to get only Rs 1,500 per month as child care allowance. The allowance is meant only for differently-abled women employees.

Two-year benefit

"Women with disabilities shall be paid Rs 3,000 per month as special allowance for child care. The allowance shall be payable from the time of the child’s birth till the child is two years old,” said an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Hindustan Times reported.

Women with disabilities can avail of this scheme for a maximum two children.

“The above limit would be automatically raised by 25% every time the Dearness Allowance on the revised pay structure goes up by 50%,” said the DoPT order, that came into effect two days ago

The 7th central Pay Commission had recommended the proposal of giving a hike to the mothers and the central government has given its approval.

“The Commission recognises the huge responsibility that these women shoulder while raising their children. Therefore, instead of the factor of 1.5 that we have mostly used for semi-DA indexed allowances, it is recommended that this allowance be raised by a factor of 2 to Rs 3,000 per month,” the commission had said in its report.

The DoPT has also decided to reimburse of education allowance of Rs 2,250 per month to children.

“The amount fixed for reimbursement of hostel subsidy will be Rs 6,750 per month,” it said.

The proposal included the norm of having considered the situation based on the wage-earners of one family. If both husband and wife are government servants, only one of them will get the reimbursement under children's education allowance, the order said.

“The above limits would be automatically raised by 25 per cent every time the Dearness Allowance on the revised pay structure goes up by 50 per cent. The allowance will be double for differently-abled children,” it said.
