A four-year-old toddler suffered severe injuries after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Maruti Nagar in Chaitanyapuri, Hyderabad. The boy, identified as Rishi, was rescued by locals who chased away the dogs.
According to Rishi’s mother, Bhagyalakshmi, a daily wage labourer, the boy was playing outside their house when the stray dogs attacked him suddenly on Tuesday evening. By the time the locals intervened and drove the dogs away, the dogs had bitten Rishi’s right hand and leg. Rishi was taken to the local government hospital by his family, where his injuries were treated, and he was discharged soon after.

"The dogs were trying to drag my son. Fortunately, we were able to save him because the incident occurred right in front of us; otherwise, he would have suffered more injuries," Bhagyalakshmi told TOI.
She also said that they had filed complaints regarding stray dog menace numerous times with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), but no serious action was taken. "Once they did take the dogs away, they released them back in the same location. They were the same dogs that attacked my son," said Bhagyalakshmi.
Child Mauled To Death By Stray Dogs In Hyderabad
This is the second incident to happen within a span of two days in Hyderabad. On Sunday, a five-year-old toddler was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Bagh Amberpet, Hyderabad. The kid, identified as Pradeep, had accompanied his father, who works as a security guard, to the area. A CCTV video capturing the attack went viral on social media.
The video shows the boy walking with a small bag in his hand while some stray dogs are tailing him. Suddenly, the dogs pounced on the boy and knocked him down. According to the GHMC, the stray dogs were tailing the boy because he had a bag containing food with him. The boy tried to flee, but the dogs attacked him ferociously and bit him all over.
The boy suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital by his father and a few other people, but was declared dead. The boy’s family belongs to the Nizamabad district of Hyderabad.
Following the two horrific incidents of stray dogs attacking kids in Hyderabad, the administration reportedly said it has intensified dog-catching and plans 100 percent sterilisation of stray dogs. The High Court has also taken suo moto cognisance of the issue. The Governor of Hyderabad has also directed the administration to find solutions to the street dog issue.
In a meeting on Wednesday, Special Chief Secretary to the government, Arvind Kumar briefed the veterinary officials and zonal commissioners to take appropriate measures in areas where most dog attacks were registered. He also directed eating outlets to not dump food waste on the streets that might attract dogs to them. Officials were advised to develop an app for dog owners to register their pets and also issue ID cards to the owners. He also added that all sanitation workers would be trained to deal with stray dogs.
