Lakhimpur Kheri Violence Case: The violence in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri that took eight lives including four farmers' and started a political row over the alleged involvement of a union minister's son will now be heard by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court led bench on October 7.

The Supreme court took cognisance of the case amid outrage over alleged police inaction in the case. As per reports, two lawyers of Uttar Pradesh wrote a letter to the CJI NV Ramana about the case.
The farmers have been protesting against the alleged murder of the farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri. Eight people were killed during clashes between farmers and the ruling party supporters on Sunday.

The car that killed the eight protestors allegedly belonged to the Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra's son Ashish. His name is mentioned in the police complaint but even after four days, Ashish is yet to be arrested.

According to the police, they are investigating the car crash and have registered a case against 13 people. Ashish Mishra's father held a meeting with Union Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and has refused to resign from his post.

The Union Minister of State claimed that his son was not sitting in the and the driver lost control and hit the farmers after they started throwing stones at the vehicle. Ashish Mishra has also denied the allegations and is at large.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was arrested Tuesday after one day-long detention in the Sitapur district. She was going to meet the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.

Protests groups in a petition to President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday and sought a court-supervised investigation of the incident. The farmers have been protesting against the new farm laws since last year. The central government has refused to fulfill farmers' demands.
