Chhattisgarh rape case: A caretaker of a training centre for children with disabilities in Jashpur was arrested on charges of rape and molestation by police in Chhattisgarh. The arrest came after police received a tip regarding sexual misconduct at the centre. The centre's watchman too has been arrested in connection with the case and the survivors have been sent for medical examination.

On September 24, the police arrested the caretaker, who is 32-year-old and the security guard, who is 33-year-old from the centre and both were booked under Section 376 (rape) and 354 (molestation), Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO). The additional SP Pratibha Pandey said that the police is interrogating the two accused.
According to the police, the alleged rape case and molestation took place in the absence of the warden, who was on leave.
The Superintendent of Jashpur Police, Vijay Agarwal said that a woman sweeper had complained on September 23 at midnight about staffers using abusive language and harassing the minors.
“On Friday morning, I constituted a team led by additional superintendent of police (ASP) Pratibha Pandey and started investigation. During the probe, the police team found the two accused have molested five minors and one of them raped a minor girl at the training centre,” said Agarwal, reported Hindustan Times.
In January this year, a hearing and speech impaired minor girl was allegedly gangraped while out for grazing cattle in Madhubani district of Bihar. The accused allegedly tried to injure the minor's eyes as well, in an attempt to ensure that she was unable to identify them. Three arrests were made in connection with the case.
