What Happened

The incident happened at around 7 p.m. on August 5. The armed men entered Sushila's house and began attacking her father, Somdhar Korram. The men aimed for his neck but the blow landed on his chest. When the teenage girl entered the scene, she spared no time in confronting the four attackers.

Fighting by herself, Sushila bravely managed to snatch an axe from one of the attackers and stood between the attackers and her injured father as a shield. She yelled loudly to get the neighbours' attention and scared the attackers away. The villagers arrived at the scene and rushed Somdhar to the hospital.

Somdhar was admitted to Dimrapal Medical College Hospital in Jagdalpur. The doctors reported that his condition was stable. Sushila reportedly dropped out of school after Class 7. The 17-year-old has emerged as a hero in the village since she rescued her father from attackers.

Why Was Her Father Attacked

According to reports, the attackers were initially thought to be Maoist rebels but Sushila's family now suspects her cousin's involvement due to a recent family dispute. She told the news outlet NDTV, "My father fought with his uncle over land; he said he wouldn't give the field because we don't have a son."

In her statement, Sushila added, "I could not identify if they were Maoists or someone else. They have stopped coming here since the camp was set up." Narayanpur Superintendant of Police Prabhat Kumar dismissed the possibility of Maoist involvement and ordered a probe into the matter.
