In the road accident that took place in Chennai's Maduravoyal on January 3, a 22-years-old woman named Shobhana was reportedly driving her younger brother Harish on her scooter to his NEET coaching when the vehicle hit a pothole on the service road in Maduravoyal. Both the riders fell off the scooter and just then, a truck coming from behind ran over Shobhana and she was killed on spot. Harish got some severe injuries and was rushed to a private hospital where he is currently being treated.
The Poonamalli Police is investigating the matter and the officials have alleged that neither of the riders were wearing helmets. The police reportedly informed the media that the truck driver, identified as Mohan, fled the scene after the accident but was arrested by the police and a case of causing death by negligence and rash driving was filed against him. The damaged road was also repaired by the civic authorities later on.
The CEO of the company the victim worked at, Sridhar Vembu took to Twitter to inform about the engineer's death and wrote, "One of our engineers, Ms. Shobana died tragically when her scooter skidded in the heavily potholed roads near Maduravoyal in Chennai. She was taking her younger brother to school. Our bad roads have caused a tragic loss to her family and Zoho."
