Charu Sinha assumed the office of Inspector General of CRPF in Srinagar in September 2020. The first woman IPS of Kashmir has completed her tenure of two and a half years and bid farewell to the office on Tuesday with a speech about her journey in Central Kashmir.
1996 batch IPS Charu Sinha became the first Inspector General of CRPF in Kashmir in September 2020. She had earlier headed the anti-Naxal operations in Bihar before being given the responsibility of maintaining the peace and safety of people in the Valley for a period of two and a half years.
Sinha headed the Srinagar CRPF's sector with three districts of central Kashmir under it, namely, Budgam, Srinagar and Garnderbal. She completed her tenure on Tuesday and bid farewell to her office as she was transferred to Hyderabad.

A press release on February 20 announced Charu Sinha's successful completion of her tenure as Inspector General of CRPF in Central Kashmir. The press releases appreciated her sensitive and careful approach to maintaining peace in the region and promoting harmony among people and reportedly said, "During her tenure, Sinha demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and worked tirelessly to improve security scenario in the region. Her efforts in fostering strong relationships with the local community have helped build trust and cooperation between CRPF and the local population".
During her time as IG in Central Kashmir, Charu Sinha took many important decisions like teaching the paramilitary personnel posted in the region the basics of Kashmiri language to facilitate better communication with the locals and making the personnels use shoe covers when they were entering the residential houses during anti-militancy operations in order to respect the sentiments of the local people.
She reportedly had a message for the people of Kashmir as she took her leave and said, "I am proud of what we have achieved together in the last two and a half years. The people of this region have been incredibly supportive, and we have been able to establish a strong foundation of trust and cooperation. I am confident that my successor will build upon our success and continue to work towards a safer and more secure future for the people of this region".
