Chandigarh University (CU) MMS Leak Case triggered protest and students demanded immediate arrest of people involved in leaking videos of female from Chandigarh University Hostel.
Among arrested, Sanjeev Singh, the army man blackmailed multiple women in the past, said police on 30 September in a report.
Police official earlier claimed that mobile number being used by Singh was where the accused female student shared her private videos. First Information Report pertaining to the CU case also include this number. With the help of this number, police managed to retrieve some data. This data is claimed to establish that Singh blackmailed other women as well.
The forensic report revealed that the army man sent an objectionable photo of the student to her father and aunt. It also revealed that the female student accused had taken photographs of fellow students, however, the police did not share whether the photographs were objectionable.
The police probe suggested that the army man was the main accused who use aimed to get objectionable photographs/videos of the female students from the accused student. The court order also revealed that the army man demanded "nude photos of girl students".

Social media app has flagged his number as ‘scammer’. Police official probing the case claimed, "We also found a few comments and allegations by the app users, affirming that they were blackmailed by the person using the phone number.” Although, officer also added that online flak won’t affect the probe in the CU case if the accused didn’t circulate the video of the female student or her peers.
The all-woman, three-member special investigation team (STI) investigating the case, looking forward to forensic analysis of mobile data for clarity about his past.
On other hand Singh has disagreed to all the allegations of blackmailing the female student. Singh claimed that he was in a relationship with accused female and she herself shared her personal videos with him.
The co-accused Rankaj Verma in the case withdrew his bail plea on 30 September. Verma will file a fresh bail plea citing few more arguments to prove his innocence as per the counsel Harvinder Singh Johal in a report.
Johal claimed, "Verma never met any of the co-accused and police failed to recover any video from his mobile phone. We will file a fresh bail plea on Saturday." On 27 September, police submitted before the court that Verma confessed of circulating the videos shared with him and granting him bail will tamper the investigation.
