Recently, a woman was abducted by three men in a car in Gurgaon and was raped while driving from Gurgaon to Delhi to Noida. Such crimes against women has become a common occurrence in the capital city and its nearby regions. The new National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report of 2017 claims that cases of kidnapping have risen in the past one year.
While till May 2016, 1,462 cases of kidnapping were registered by the Delhi Police, the city has reported over 1,552 cases till May 2017. The report also says that every hour, about 28 crime cases are registered by the city police in the capital.
There is, however, some good news as well. According to data of the past year, there has been a dip in registered rape cases. While 836 rape cases were registered from May 2016 to May 2017, as many as 924 cases were registered in the May 2015-May 2016 period. But the point to be noted is that these cases are only those that are reported with the police and cannot be considered as the total number of rapes happened in the city as a large number of cases are not registered at all.

The report shows an increase in snatching cases in this year as compared to the last year and a slew of other crimes like burglary, motor vehicle theft and murder cases have also seen a rise.
While the report shows a declining pattern in rapes against women and other such crimes, the recent scenario of gangrapes happening in Delhi NCR region gives out a different picture altogether.
