Narineh Avakian: According to the authorities, search efforts are underway to find Narineh Avakian, the Southern California woman who went on a one-day hike on March 7, 2021.
The Glendale Police Department said in a statement that the 37-year-old Narineh Avakian told her family that she was going on a one-day hike on Sunday, March 7. After Avakian failed to come back, she was reported missing by her family on March 8.
The family informed the police that Avakian often went on solo trips and that they did not know where she planned to hike that day. On Thursday, March 11 her car was found at the Buckhorn Day Use Area along the Angeles Crest Highway. The area is located in Angeles National Forest at an elevation of about 2,050 meters.
The police stated that “It should be noted that this area was heavily impacted by the recent snowstorm.”
Avakian’s car was taken to the Glendale police station for further processing. A search and rescue crew from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was deployed along with volunteers. On March 12, the search effort was suspended for several hours due to undesirable weather as a around a foot of snow fell overnight.
The authorities “highly discouraged” members of the public from conducting their own search efforts. The police stated that “At this time, there is no suspicion of foul play.”
Avakian was last seen wearing a grey sweatshirt and white leggings.
