The police have arrested a bus conductor of the Ryan International School in Gurgaon for the sexual assault and murder of a 7-year-old student.
The police claim that the bus conductor had confessed to the crime, and had tried to sexually assault the Class 2 boy earlier too. The 7-year-old boy’s classmates found him in a pool of blood, after which they alerted the school authorities. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Deputy commissioner of police Asok Kumar Bakshi said, "The victim struggled and crawled outside the toilet when a fellow student noticed him in a pool of blood."
A knife was also found at the spot. Three persons had been detained in the case, including a driver, a school staff member and the bus conductor.
Following the incident, hundreds of parents protested outside the school. They forcibly entered the school, and even vandalised property alleging negligence on the part of school authorities. They were forced to leave the school.
“I dropped him on time around 7:55 am. I received the call around 8.10. They told me my son is bleeding, he was found outside the washroom and they are rushing to the hospital, they asked me to come too. I rushed but my boy was dead by the time I reached. It is a clear-cut murder case. It happened inside the school. How can a parent know what happens to their child in school?" said the father of the boy.
The school allegedly had not conducted police verification of teaching and non-teaching staff.
Sexual assault of young boys is as real as assault of girls. Several studies say that more than half of the victims of child sexual abuse are boys, and that less than 25 per cent of these cases are ever reported.
