What image does a wedding scene bring to your mind? Two families celebrating the union of two individuals tied by a thread of love and companionship? That's what it is supposed to be, right? However, that's not the case with a family in Jharkhand's Ranchi district who cancelled their son's wedding for the mere reason that the bride's father couldn't pay Rs. 5 lakh rupees, including gold, on the wedding day.
This annoyed the bride's family as well who then filed a complaint against the would-be groom's family under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Dowry Prohibition Act and police are now investigating the matter.
Wedding Called Off After Bride Turns Down Dowry Demand
It all started before the 'Varmala' ceremony when the dowry demand from the groom's side triggered a clash between both groups, as per a report.
According to a statement given by bride's mother Kaushalya Devi, they had already given around Rs 2.5 lakh cash, gold rings, a two-wheeler, a gold chain, and other expensive items during the engagement.
