Brianna McNeal banned from participating in the Olympics 2021 for manipulating her dope test result, resulting in the violation of laws concerning doping.
Olympics 100m hurdles champion Brianna McNeal has been banned for five years for tampering with the anti-doping testing process, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on June 4.
Reportedly, this is the second sequential year of the doping violation, the first time being in 2017 when she missed the World Championships because of her one-year ban for missing three drug tests.
The American track and field athlete has been served a five-year ban for the mentioned violation, however, she can still take part in the Tokyo Olympics US Trials dated for later this month.
Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced the ban for “tampering within the results management process” on the 29-year-old athlete on June 4, stating, "she can still take part in the US trials for the Tokyo Olympics later this month while she appeals the ban, which is backdated to August 15, 2020." the AIU said in a statement.
McNeal, protesting the accusations on her, posted on her social media account, "The system is pretty messed up if you ask me but that's another topic for another day."
According to her previous protests, she said, "As far as my situation goes, I am still me! Very clean, very honest and transparent. Once all of this blows over I will provide more details of what's actually going on."
McNeal's appeal will be heard on July 23 before the commencement of the Olympics.
Brianna McNeal's Previous Bans
The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) banned McNeal for missing three drugs tests in 2016. Two of the drug tests were not met with a proper update of her whereabouts. Reportedly, she was attending a fete of honour in her hometown and travelling to the White House to meet the president.
In January 2021, McNeal was suspended from participating in the competition by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for "tampering of doping control."
