Bravery awardee Nazia's appeal to CM Akhilesh Yadav to save her from harassers

15-year-old Nazia, who was honoured with the Rani Laxmibai bravery award by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav in March this year for rescuing a six-year-old Hindu girl from kidnappers in August of 2015, is now a victim of harassment. The teen girl from UP has been harassed by some punters who indulged in matka gambling and were troubling her for taking them on, as reported by TOI. In July, she had filed a complaint against these goons who live near her house in Mantola locality of Agra. Disappointed with the local cops’ behaviour as they supported her harassers, Nazia then has requested to the UP CM to save her life in a series of tweets. No reply from the CM’s front yet.

One of the tweets was dedicated to the CM to reminding him about his earlier act of encouraging her to bravely oppose crime, but now her efforts to do so by complaining against a punter had instead led to her harassment.

In another tweet, she blamed both the police and the punter and that they were defaming her too. She complained to the CM that despite registering a case against the punter, no one has been taken under arrest so far and her family is now living under serious threat.

According to police officials, an FIR was registered on Nazia's complaint at Mantola police station against four alleged harassers for voluntarily causing hurt and assaulting a woman on July 13.

Nazia told TOI, "I was encouraged when the CM told me to continue my fight against crime. However, when I raised my voice against the punter, they all have made my life miserable."

Nazia claims that the police officers in fact were questioning Nazia instead, behaving "as if she is a suspect in the case". She is disgusted by the lack of police action and took her allegations to social media. The harassers even came to her house and publicly insulted her and her family. When asked SP Sushil Dhule about the case, he said he would take immediate action on Nazia's allegations and help her out.
