Brave Mother Tackles Man Peeping Through Daughter's Window

Mom tackles stalker: Phyllis Pena was returning home around 7 a.m. on January 31, when she saw 19-year-old Zane Hawkins looking into her 15-year-old daughter’s bedroom.

The police dashcam footage in Lake Jackson, Texas caught the moment the mother tackles the man to the ground. Pena’s daughter was not in the room at the time, but Hawkins took off as soon as he saw Pena, who had called the police immediately when she saw him leave.

“I see this guy just crouched down, trying to peek through my daughter’s window,” Pena said.

Officers from the Lake Jackson Police Department were called to the home after getting a report of “a suspicious male in the area that had looked inside a window of a house.”

The police had found Hawkins nearby, who ran back towards Pena in an effort to evade arrest, Pena then proceeded to tackle him to the ground. Her daughter helped hold Hawkins down until the police arrived to apprehend him. Pena said, “I figured at least I could do, if I got him down, tripped him up, whatever, then they’d have a chance to get caught up.”

Sgt. Roy Welch said, “It’s not very often that we have somebody that actually steps in, puts themself in harm’s way to assist in apprehending somebody.”

According to Pena, neither she nor her children know Hawkins, the suspect. Hawkins was taken into custody after being tackled according to the Lake Jackson Police Department. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, evading arrest and resisting arrest.
