The criminal writ petition in question has been filed by Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh against Ranaut under Section 482 of the CRPC (Saving of inherent powers of High Court), HT reported. Additionally, the Maharashtra government told the Bombay High Court on Thursday that the petition was "vague", and the plea was not maintainable.
This petition comes after several controversial tweets by the actress and her sister Rangoli Chandel, which allegedly incited hatred against communities, were called out on social media. These tweets also included the one which subsequently led to the suspension of Chandel's account by Twitter India for targeting a specific community. The petition also includes Ranaut's tweet in which she compared Mumbai to "Pak- occupied- Kashmir". "She (Ranaut) has multiple FIRs pending against her. In the past she has misused the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput for her own gains and she is doing so now with farmers' protest too," Deshmukh said.
