The Grammy nominations for the year 2021 are here and Beyoncé' and husband Jay-Z's 8-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter has been nominated, for the first time ever. She received the honour for her contribution to Beyoncé‘s Brown Skin Girl music video.
The Recording Academy’s website released updated names of the nominees on December 11 and Blue Ivy has now grabbed a place alongside Beyoncé and WizKiD in the Best Music Video category. She is being credited as a featured artist on the track. As per AP, Brown Skin Girl has won Blue Ivy many awards, including two Soul Train Music Awards, a BET Award, and a NAACP Image Award. She is listed as a co-writer of the song.
Talking about handling a personal life during the pandemic and how her daughter helped her, last month, Beyoncé had said, “Blue is very smart, and she is aware that there is a shift, but it is my job as a parent to do my best to keep her world as positive and safe as can be for an eight-year-old."
“My best advice is to love them harder than ever. I let my children know that they are never too young to contribute to changing the world. I never underestimate their thoughts and feelings, and I check in with them to understand how this is affecting them. Blue saw some of the reactions to the ‘Brown Skin Girl’ video, as well as some of the videos from the philanthropic work I’ve done this year. When I tell her I’m proud of her, she tells me that she’s proud of me and that I’m doing a good job. It’s teeeeeew much sweetness. She melts my heart. I believe the best way to teach them is to be the example,” she added.
Recently, the talented youngster secured her first Billboard 100 hit at the age of seven, when Brown Skin Girl debuted at Number 76 on the charts. The song is a celebration of women of colours. It appeared on The Lion King: The Gift (Deluxe Edition) album and features Beyoncé, Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Campbell and Kelly Rowland.
The Grammys will take place on January 31.
