BJP Plans Young Women’s Cell In Delhi

In a bid to promote young women of the 18-25 age group, the ruling BJP has decided to set up a ‘Yuvti Prakoshth’ (Young Women’s Cell) in Delhi. A party leader involved in the decision said that national general secretary (organisation) of the BJP, Ram Lal, has directed the state authority to generate interest among young women, especially the stay-at-home young women of the capital.

“While interacting with the state leadership during party president Amit Shah’s pravas (stay) in Delhi last week, Ram Lal said that young women should be brought into the party. His view was that there are women who are impressed with the party’s policies and ideology, but they don’t come out for different reasons. A special drive should be initiated to persuade them to join the party,” the leader said, Hindustan Times reported.

The cell will be an independent division, rather than being an extension of either Mahila Morcha (Women’s Wing) or Yuva Morcha (Youth Wing), as instructed by the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS).

To kick off the work of the Young Women's Cell, state unit chief Manoj Tiwari has asked its Youth Wing (all 14 district presidents) to execute an identification drive to analyze the database of young women in Delhi.

“The members of the Youth Wing have been asked to prepare a list of women in the age group of 18-25 years and are willing to work for the outfit. In the first phase, the district or block level leaders will prepare a list. Thereafter, a detailed strategy will be chalked out for further course of action. They have specifically been told that no pressure should be put on anyone, and to invite only those who are keen to join,” said a party insider.

For women to work with the Youth Wing or Mahila Morcha, one should be 25 years of age, so the party’s move justifies the need of college goers to have an organisation where they can grow and become more aware of the political fabric of the country.

BJP leaders are of the view that this cell will help them interact with a large section of society that remains “unattended”. The party now wants to further its support group to young women, says a party insider.
