In Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district, a case has been registered against a leader from the BJP minority morcha, who is accused of raping a 17-year-old Dalit girl and killing her father, according to the police.
The complaint has been filed at the Sadar Kotwali police station against Masoom Raza Rahi, who serves as the district president of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) minority morcha.
Police Investigation Revelations
The girl, in her statement to the police, claimed that on August 28, the BJP leader sexually assaulted her. When her father, named Raju, objected to the incident, the accused allegedly attacked him, causing severe injuries.
Tragically, the girl's father succumbed to his injuries during medical treatment. She further revealed that after her mother's death, she and her family, consisting of her father, three sisters, and a younger brother, had been living in Rahi's residence as tenants.
Circle Officer (Sadar) Ajay Singh Chauhan stated that a case has been filed against the accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 376 (rape), 302 (murder), 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (insult with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Additionally, charges have been brought under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
BJP's Statement
Sanjay Pandey, the district convenor of the BJP, confirmed that the party's senior leadership is aware of the incident and will take appropriate action. A senior member of the BJP's minority morcha, acknowledging Rahi as the district president of the morcha, emphasized that the law applies equally to everyone. The guilty will face consequences, and justice will be served to the victim, he assured.
