BJP's Chitra Wagh Accused Of Defaming Sharad Pawar's Party Leader

A defamation complaint has been filed against Bharatiya Janta Party's Chitra Wagh for allegedly defaming Sharad Pawar's Party's youth wing Leader.

Wagh is accused of defaming NCP's state youth wing head Mehboob Shaikh. The Police of Maharashtra has registered a non-cognisable offence against her. Wagh is the vice president of BJP in Maharashtra.

Mehboob Shaikh had said in his statement that came to Shirur tehsil in Beed along with other party workers in July. She had alleged that he had raped a woman, but police did not arrest him. After this incident, Shaikh said that Wagh allegedly defamed him and tarnished his image. He also added that the case was settled by police after an investigation into it

He registered a non-cognisable offence under the Indian Penal Code Section 500 (defamation) against Wagh on Monday.

BJP's Chitra Wagh responded to the complaint and wrote in a tweet, "If an offence is registered against me for speaking about those who commit crimes against women, I am ready to face 100 such cases daily."

Who is Chitra Wagh?

• Wagh was born and brought up in Mumbai where she also pursued her early education. In an interview,
• Wagh has also earlier spoken against the crime and injustice done to women and fight for their rights.
• Wagh joined a political party called Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to work as a social worker in 2014. She later resigned from the post of Mahila Morcha state president in the NCP party in January 2021.
• Kishore Wagh, Chitra's husband was caught in an Anti-Corruption Bureau investigation for taking a bribe of ₹ 400000 regarding the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Parel.
• She has completed her graduation in BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance at The London School of Economics and Political Science – LSE.
