A woman from Bihar was reportedly given a dose of Covishield and Covaxin within five minutes on Wednesday. The Bihar woman given two doses is currently under observation and is reported to be well.
The Bihar woman, Sunila Devi, a 63-year-old woman, is a resident of Awadhpur village under the Punpun block of Patna district. Sunila Devi visited the Beldarichak middle school vaccination camp on June 16 where she was vaccinated twice by mistake.
According to reports, there were two separate rooms for the two different vaccines. There was also a registration area outside after which the person has to stand in one of the two lines for both the age groups (18-44 years and above 45 years) leading to the vaccination rooms. One of the rooms was for Covishield while the other one was for Covaxin. There were two nurses and midwives assigned to the centres, Chanchala Kumari and Sunita Kumari. Medical Officer Sanjay Kumar has asked them for an answer about the double jab error.
Sunila Devi, reportedly after receiving the first vaccine of Covishield and was told to wait for some time before leaving. She waited for five minutes and then joined the second queue for the vaccine and took another shot of the COVID-19 vaccine being Covaxin.
Later Devi's family members along with other villagers reached the Healthcare camp and confronted the medical officers present on duty. Medical Officer Sanjay Kumar said in his statement, " A medical team has been sent to observe the woman and she has been doing well."
As of June 17, Mangal Pandey, the Health Minister of the state of Bihar, reported having vaccinated 6.62 lakh people in a single day. Bihar has registered 385 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. There are currently 3,803 active cases of COVID-19 in the state of Bihar. And overall 9,527 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in Bihar according to reports.
