In Simarwada village, Vaishali district, Bihar, a 24-year-old woman, identified as Sarita Kumari, attacked 22-year-old Dharmendra Kumar with acid. The assault, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, resulted in severe burn injuries to Dharmendra's face. The victim, a taxi driver by profession, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hajipur. This disturbing event comes after Dharmendra allegedly refused to marry Sarita, his neighbour and romantic partner, for the past five months.
This reprehensible act has sent shockwaves through the community, shedding light on the dark repercussions of failed relationships and unrequited love.
Background of the Relationship
Dharmendra and Sarita, both residents of Simarwada and neighbours, had been involved in a romantic relationship for the past five months. The dynamics of their connection took a tragic turn when Dharmendra, a taxi driver by profession, received a call from Sarita around 2 am, expressing her desire to meet. Little did he know that this meeting would culminate in a horrifying acid attack that would change his life forever.
As per the account provided by the survivor and corroborated by local authorities, the attack transpired as Dharmendra was about to leave Sarita's residence. The assailant, accompanied by an unidentified man who is currently at large, launched an acid assault on Dharmendra's face. The victim's screams alerted nearby residents, who promptly rushed him to a private hospital in Hajipur.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Dharmendra, who was undergoing treatment for severe burns to his eyes and face, recorded his statement before the police. He revealed that he had been in communication with Sarita for several months, and the attack was a consequence of his decision not to marry her. The survivor's family had arranged his marriage to another woman, further exacerbating Sarita's resentment.
The Vaishali police, led by Superintendent Ravi Ranjan Kumar, promptly arrested Sarita Kumari on Tuesday afternoon following Dharmendra's statement. The charges filed against both Sarita and the unidentified accomplice include sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (criminal act done by several persons) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
During her interrogation, Sarita, a mother of three who had separated from her husband, confessed to her heinous act. She admitted that the motive behind the acid attack was Dharmendra's refusal to marry her and his subsequent engagement to another woman.
The police are actively investigating the case to identify and apprehend the unidentified male accomplice. An FIR has been registered against both accused, and the legal proceedings are underway.
