After the attack, the nurse fled the scene and took shelter in a nearby maize field, from where she called the police emergency number 112 to report the incident. Upon receiving the call, the police promptly arrived at the location, finding the doctor and two others in an intoxicated state. The injured doctor was immediately taken to a local hospital and later referred to DMCH due to his critical condition.
The incident occurred near Gangapur village, under the Musrigharari police station's jurisdiction. The nurse, in her statement to the police, revealed that she acted in self-defence after the doctor and two other staff members attempted to sexually assault her during her night shift at the hospital.
The police successfully located and rescued the nurse from the field where she had been hiding. They also conducted a raid at the hospital, arresting the doctor, identified as Dr. Sanjay Kumar alias Sanju, and two intoxicated staff members, Sunil Kumar Gupta from Vaishali and Awadhesh Kumar from Samastipur.
More Details
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Pandey stated that a police team was dispatched to the hospital, where they safely took the nurse into custody and arrested three individuals. DSP Kumar reported that the attackers had disabled the CCTV cameras and locked the hospital from the inside before attempting to sexually assault the nurse. He praised the nurse for her quick thinking and bravery during the ordeal.
During their initial investigation at the scene, police recovered the blade used by the nurse, blood-stained clothing, a liquor bottle, and three mobile phones. Authorities confirmed that the three men were drinking prior to the incident and will face additional charges under Bihar's prohibition laws due to the state's alcohol ban.
Dr. Sanjay, who also holds the position of organisational secretary for the Hindu Samaj Party, was hospitalised in critical condition. He, along with the two other accused, has been officially arrested, and an FIR is being filed based on the nurse’s statement. The case has raised serious concerns over safety in the workplace, particularly in medical institutions.
