A wedding celebration in Odisha's Bargarh district turned tragic late Thursday night when two of the bride's family neighbours reportedly killed her 50-year-old mother for objecting to their dancing in the wedding procession.
According to sources, Rashmi Rajhans, the daughter of Dadumani Rajhans, and Kishori Rajhans were planning to marry in their Salepali hamlet, which is under Melchhamunda police jurisdiction. The baraat arrived in the village at midnight and proceeded to the bride's house in a procession accompanied by loud music and crackers.
Some of the groom's family and friends who had arrived with the baraati were dancing joyfully to the music. In their zeal for the dance, they reportedly pushed some locals who were observing the ceremony. The villagers objected, and a debate arose.
As the disagreement turned into a passionate exchange of words, the bride's mother, Kishori, hurried to the scene and attempted to calm both the villagers and the baraati members. The villagers were enraged at Kishori's meddling and attacked her. Reportedly, Kishori's alleged killers, Sumant Nayak and Subodh Rajhans, arrived with sharp weapons and hacked her to death.
Bride's Mother Gets Stabbed
According to other reports, when the groom's party arrived in the village, the two neighbours joined the procession. Two men, Sumant Nayak and Subodh Rajhans, started dancing and causing havoc in the wedding procession until Kishori Rajhans, the bride's mother, asked them to leave. According to a Padmapur sub divisional police officer, Bhabani Bhoi, "The two became enraged and attacked the woman with a weapon having a sharp edge. She passed out and was transported to the district headquarters hospital, where the doctor confirmed her dead."
Meanwhile, according to the deceased woman's husband, Jadumani Rajhans, locals attacked Kishori because of past animosity for some reason.
