The medical superintendent of the state-run Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal has been accused of sexual harassment by over 50 nurses. The nurses wrote to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, accusing medical superintendent Deepak Maravi of improper behaviour, particularly during night shifts, and demanding that the situation be investigated.
The government has ordered an investigation into the claims levelled by the nurses of Madhya Pradesh's largest government-run hospital.
Vishvas Sarang, the state's minister of medical education, acknowledged to reporters that a complaint had been filed against Deepak Maravi, and that an investigation had been ordered.

According to a DNA report, Sarang said, “The probe will be conducted by divisional commissioner Gulshan Bamra.”
Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has issued a notice to the state government's Commissioner of Health, requesting a response within 10 days.
This issue has also been raised by the opposition, which has urged an investigation.
State Congress chief and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath said, "An incident of indecent behaviour with 50 nurses in Bhopal`s prestigious Hamidia Hospital has come to light. This is a very serious matter related to the safety of women at the workplace."
Kamal Nath questioned whether Madhya Pradesh leads the country in crimes against women and minor girls, citing a recent instance in Bhopal in which a woman's face was cut for standing up to eve-teasers. Even young women are vulnerable asking if this is a good example of administration or a good example of law and order.
Madhya Pradesh, according to Kamal Nath, is the state with the highest number of crimes against women and young girls in the country. He claimed that even tiny girls are not protected, and he questioned the state's law and order.
