Comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa have been granted bail by a special court in Mumbai. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday raided the television couple's residence in Mumbai and later summoned Singh and her husband Limbachiyaa as a part of its ongoing probe into alleged drug abuse in Bollywood. The same day, Singh was arrested by the NCB over alleged possession and use of drugs. Limbachiyaa was arrested on Sunday. During the search, the officials allegedly recovered 86.5 grams of ganja (cannabis) from their house in suburban Andheri. Singh and Limbachiyaa were later taken for interrogation, and after that, they both admitted to the consumption of drugs.

On Sunday, a Mumbai court remanded Singh and her husband to judicial custody till December 4 in a drug-related case.

The couple filed bail pleas and sought to be released, following which the NCB also said that it will file its replies on the bail pleas today. “As I am busy with other cases today, we will request for some other date of argument,” Special public prosecutor Atul Sarpande told ANI.
While giving its judgment, the court observed, “The drug seized from their residence is of a small quantity. Also, it’s a case of consumption only, hence police custody under such circumstances is not required.”

In the past few weeks, raids have been conducted by NCB at residences of many people associated with Bollywood including actor Arjun Rampal and film producer Firoz Nadiadwala. These raids are in connection with the investigation in the drug abuse angle of actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in June.
Singh and Limbachiyaa were arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act and have been booked under sections 20(b)(ii)(A) (involves small quantity of drugs) and 8(c) (possession of drugs) and 27 (consumption of drugs).
Limbachiyaa and Singh got married in 2017. While Singh is a popular stand-up comedian seen on shows such as Comedy Circus and The Kapil Sharma Show, her husband is a screenwriter.
