Beyoncé has released a trailer for her new visual album, Black is King. The album aims at promoting the beauty of tradition and black excellence. It is going to premiere internationally on Disney+ on 31 July. The album is an adaptation and also a reboot of the live-action remake of the Lion King. It has music from Beyoncé’s 2019 album, The Lion King: The Gift.
Beyoncé is also the executive producer for the project. The diverse creative team consists of the Dutch-Ghanian film-maker Emmanuel Adjei, the Ghanaian pop star Blitz Bazawule and the Belgian visual artist Pierre Debusschere.
The makers shot Black Is King over the course of a year in Los Angeles, South Africa, Belgium, New York and London. Beyoncé’s husband, rapper Jay-Z and her former Destiny’s Child band-mate, Kelly Rowland are going to feature in the visual album as well. Singer Pharrell Williams, actress Lupita Nyong’o and supermodel Naomi Campbell are also among the featured artists.

Black Is King focuses on the superstar's reimagined Africa. In the fantasy film, a young man embarks on an ethereal voyage to self-discovery wherein his glorious ancestral history and heritage guide him. Beyoncé researched a multitude of African cultures to consequently write, direct and also produce the film.
“The film follows a young king’s transcendent journey through betrayal, love, and self-identity," a press release stated.
