After transportation secretary Elaine Chao, Betsy DeVos became the second cabinet member to resign citing the Capitol Hill riots on Thursday. DeVos said that the riot was an “inflection point” for her. The longest-serving cabinet member criticized Donald Trump for inciting the masses in her resignation letter.
She said, “That behaviour was unconscionable for our country. There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me."
She also added that at this point there should have been celebrations of Trump administration’s “many accomplishments on behalf of American people” instead they are left “ to clean up the mess by violent protestors overrunning the U.S. Capitol.”

Apart from DeVos and Elaine Chao, Melania Trump’s chief staff Stephenie Grisham has also resigned.
The riots have said to have caused the death of four people including a 14-year Air Force veteran Ashli Babbit. Donald Trump has been widely criticised for provoking people who came to storm the Capitol building to overturn the election results in favour of Donald Trump.
Nancy Pelosi the speaker of US House of Representatives called for the second impeachment of Donald Trump as she called it an emergency of the highest magnitude.
After being blocked on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram Donald Trump finally spoke about the riots through a video message. He claimed that he had deployed national guard and federal law enforcement to secure the Capitol building from the intruders.
He said, “Like all Americans, I am outraged by the violence, lawlessness and mayhem.”
“To those who engaged in acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country. And to those who broke the law, you will pay. We have just been through an intense election and emotions are high, but now tempers must be cooled, and calm restored,” he added.
