The couple was returning from a road trip from Tamil Nadu in their SUV when an argument broke out and the woman shot the man on his abdomen thrice. The man stumbled out of the car, and jumped into a BMTC bus but his wife chased the bus in the SUV and got inside to try and shoot the man again. She was stopped by the people in the bus.

The woman, Hamsa, and her husband, Sairam, had consumed alcohol on their way back from Tamil Nadu.

The police have arrested Hamsa, and are interrogating her. She has alleged that she shot him because he hit her. The man is fighting for his life at Sparsh Hospital, Bommanahalli. He has multiple bullet wounds in his abdomen and the doctors are treating him.

Initial investigations by the police revealed that the couple had been married for almost 20 years and were having troubles in their marriage. They had been living separately for a while.

"The couple had several problems in their marriage and according to the wife, an argument started between them and Sairam allegedly hit Hamsa," a senior police officer told Times of India. "We are still unclear about the problem that led to the argument, but have learnt that there were several issues in their marriage for many years now," the officer added.

The couple resides in HSR Layout and have a teenage daughter. Sairam owns a private security firm and the pistol used for shooting was a licensed one.
