A 35, Bengaluru con man has been marrying women since 2014. He has married 15 women over the years and has children with four of them. The man is identified as Mahesh K B Nayak, posed as a Doctor and Engineer in front of the women using matrimonial sites. Recently, he was arrested when the woman (software engineer) he married this year from Andhra Pradesh filed a complaint against him. The man allegedly forced and harassed her to extract money from her. When she refused, he eloped with her jewellery and cash. Police arrested him from Tumakuru. Another woman also approached police to file a complaint against Nayak, alleging him cheating. Nayak to prove his degree and occupation, also set up a fake clinic and hired a nurse in Tumakuru.

According to police, If it wasn’t for his poor English, he would have lured more women into his trap. Many women rejected him due to his weak English abilities. The police also stated that he rarely met his wives, and since all of them were well-educated and professionally established, they never depended on him for financial stability. Even when they realised they had been cheated, they never filed a complaint due to embarrassment. Women wanted to avoid the social disgrace and dishonour they would have gone through. Usually, women are afraid to raise their voices only because of their fear of society.

Making Matrimonial sites safer-

Amid the growing usage of matrimonial sites every day, ensuring safety on these sites has become vital. Though these sites have a thorough verification process, it seems like they are not enough. It is essential to have a background check of the users from time to time, and it is the companies' responsibility to protect their users.
