Bengaluru Teacher Rapes 17-Year-Old Student Over 16 Months, FIR Registered

A government teacher from Bengaluru allegedly raped a 17-year-old student for over a year. The Nandagudi police have registered an FIR against the accused and are currently trying to track him down.

The survivor, who is from a village on the outskirts of Bengaluru, stays with her grandparents. She lost her mother some years back, while her father lives with his second wife now. The 17-year-old is an I PU student in a city college, reported the Times of India.

According to news reports, the teacher had raped the survivor on multiple occasions in a span of 16 months. The incident came to light on 12 September, when the survivor’s aunt noticed certain WhatsApp messages from her former school teacher on her phone. A case was registered soon after. According to the grandfather of the girl, the teacher used to interact with the girl via messages and video calls. “We had bought a smartphone for my granddaughter as she had to attend online classes towards the end of class 10. Her teacher, who used to send her messages and interact via video calls, misbehaved with her,” the survivor's 60-year-old grandfather told the police.

He made me strip thrice: 17-year-old survivor

In her complaint the survivor said that the accused had been harassing her since she was in 10^th standard. “The teacher touched me inappropriately several times. He made me strip at least thrice when he visited my house while I was studying in class 10,” she said. On coming to know that a case had been registered against him, the accused went missing.

Earlier this month the chairman of a private school was booked for raping a 20-year-old woman in Greater Noida. Then in July 2019, a girl was allegedly raped by four of her cousins, in the government school’s campus in Sitapur because she was better than them in studies. It is also reported that a teacher not only aided her cousins in the act but also participated in the sexual assault.
