According to the police, the crime likely occurred late on the night of November 4 shortly after her return home. As reported by the Deccan Chronicle, for more than eight years, the victim Pratima, aged 45, had made her home in the same place.

In a new development, the Bengaluru police have detained an individual in connection with the murder of a senior geologist.

Bengaluru police commissioner, B Dayananda said, “We have detained one person in connection with the case. Interrogation is underway. The detained person was her driver and was fired from the job recently. More information will be available after questioning.”

Details Of The Incident

On November 4, Pratima's driver dropped her off at her residence after she had finished her work. The tragic event occurred at approximately 8:30 pm, a time when her husband and son were away in Thirthahalli, situated in the Shivamogga district.

It was Pratima's brother who found her body early on the morning of November 5. Troubled by his inability to reach her by phone the previous night, he visited her home and discovered her lifeless body. He promptly contacted the local police to report the tragedy.

"As is her routine, Pratima returned home around 8 pm on November 5. Since she didn't answer calls the previous night and the morning, her elder brother visited her house to check on her. It was then that he uncovered her murder and promptly alerted the police," stated DCP, South Division, Bengaluru City, Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad.

"We have forensic and technical teams currently working on the scene. We've established three investigative teams, and once we have a clear understanding of the situation, we will share more information," he elaborated.

CM Offers Condolences

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has affirmed his commitment to a comprehensive inquiry into the murder, pledging to ensure that those responsible face justice. He mentioned, "I've just been informed about this. We will conduct a thorough investigation. It appears that she was residing alone (in Bengaluru) while her husband was in his hometown. The motive remains unclear, and we will investigate it."

The local police have officially opened a case and are pursuing all potential leads, including the possibility of involvement by a known perpetrator.
