According to Bengaluru police, a female college student was killed on May 15 by her brother's 15-year-old friend when she inquired about money missing from her purse. The now-arrested boy allegedly stole ₹2,000 from the woman and killed her when she threatened to complain to the police. The 20-year-old victim, identified as Prabhuddha, was discovered at her home in the Subramanyapura neighbourhood of the city with a slit on her throat and cuts on her wrists. The woman's brother reported the event to the authorities after discovering her body lying inside the bathroom with the back door of the house open.
"She was a courageous girl...."
According to a report in the Deccan Herald, the 15-year-old accused, who allegedly stole money from Prabhuddha, fell to her feet and pleaded with her not to complain to the police. That was when the 20-year-old woman allegedly tripped and fell, suffering a grievous head injury causing her to lose blood and fall unconscious.
Panicking, the boy allegedly dragged her to the bathroom and slit her wrist and neck with a kitchen knife. He then cleaned the knife and blood on the floors, before rushing out of the backdoor. While the case was initially probed as a suicide, the police have cracked the case and arrested the accused.
According to the Times of India, the woman had allegedly attempted suicide a few years ago. The deceased's mother is a social worker. Before the 15-year-old accused was caught, she said, "I have raised her with so much love. No matter what, she would face everything with courage... I want justice. She was a courageous girl."
The police found three handwritten apology notes and CCTV footage of the boy running down the stairs of a building near his house. Suspecting something amiss, police questioned him and discovered the truth. The deceased woman's mother, a social activist, stated that she wants justice for her daughter.
Lokesh B Jagalasar, deputy commissioner of police (South), said the minor stole the cash to pay for a friend’s broken spectacles. “The boy had broken the spectacles of a friend, and the latter had asked him to get them repaired. Afraid to ask at home he took Rs 2,000 from Prabuddha’s purse when he visited her house on May 13 with her brother,” the DCP told DH.
