Women marshals on COVID duty in Bengaluru: Eleven women marshals have been trained and deployed across Bengaluru on an experimental basis to enforce the COVID-19 norms and help out at the care centres. The step has been taken by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)- the civic body of Bengaluru.
It is the first time that the civic body has hired 11 BBMP women marshals on an experimental basis who have undergone the same training a the male marshals. According to Col Rajbir Singh, chief marshal officer, these marshals will be deployed at selected COVID centres, maternity homes, triaging and stabilisation centres of the city.
According to Indian Express, these women marshals will also be deployed on ground duty like collecting fines from people who violate COVID-19 norms and creating awareness among people about COVID appropriate behaviour.
One of the 11 marshals deployed by BBMP at the COVID centre in Mahadevapura is Bhavani KG. The 25-year-old marshal who hails from a village 5 km from Hoskote is a BA graduate and has been trained in the National Cadet Corps (NCC). The marshal said that she has always wanted to help people since her college days.
At the COVID centre that Bhavani KG is deployed, she will check the symptoms of patients, collects their details, and provides them advice and comfort. She will also help in escalation COVID-19 cases on the basis of the patients' conditions to a nurse or doctor.
The marshal who works the entire day at the COVID centre from 7 am to 3 pm said that she felt proud to help people in these trying times. I work till 3 pm. "I feel proud to help people in these distressing times," she said.
According to Col Singh, who is the chief marshal officer said that it is the first time that women marshals have been deployed for COVID related duties in the country.
