On Saturday, Bengali actor Saayoni Ghosh was appointed as the president of the All India Trinamool Youth Congress' youth wing.
In February 2021, actor Saayoni Ghosh had joined the TMC, in the presence of Mamata Banerjee, in Dunlop. She was contesting from Asansol. However, as soon as the news was out, actor Sreelekha Mitra said that Saayoni Ghosh had 'sold herself.'
"Sreelekhadi is my senior but it is beneath my dignity to comment on this. I will always speak out against any wrong. That is irrespective of my political leanings. I am comparatively brave and still don’t regret my protest as an actor when ‘Bhobisyoter Bhoot’ had problems with screening," said actor Saayoni Ghosh, while reacting to Mitra's remark.
Ghosh had even contested for the West Bengal elections, in March this year, but was defeated.
TMC adopts a 'one person, one post' policy
Meanwhile, the latest appointments to the TMC's various posts, happened during a meeting, held by West Bengal Chief Minister, and Trinamool Congress chief, Mamata Banerjee.
Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee had resigned from the post of Trinamool's Youth Congress, and was appointed as the party's general secretary. Another TMC leader named Kunal Ghosh was appointed as the party's state general secretary.
TMC MP, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, has been appointed as the president of the party's Mahila Morcha, while MP Dola Sen will serve as the national president of the Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress (INTTUC).
Purnendu Bose, a veteran leader of the TMC will now serve as the president of the party's farmers' wing. Meanwhile, first-time MLA and former film director Raj Chakraborty was made in charge of the TMC's cultural cell.
This was the first meeting of the TMC work committee, after the party won a landslide victory, during the recent West Bengal assembly elections.
During a press conference on Saturday, TMC leader, Parth Chatterjee, said that the party had decided to endorse "one person one post" policy.
