A vehicle belonging to the couple has also reportedly been vandalised. TMC member Chittaranjan Mandal has expressly denied the claims, saying the issue is falsely being politicised. "This is a lie. His (BJP worker) driver vandalised his car. He is trying to politicise the issue. TMC has nothing to do with this incident."

BJP Worker Wife Beaten, One Of Many Recent Poll Violence Incidents

Reports suggest poll violence is fairly common in the state and is known to have happened before. In February, similar claims had surfaced where a BJP worker and his 85-year-old mother were beaten by, they said, TMC members. The elderly woman Shova Majumdar had sustained serious injuries on her face and said they were beaten because her son worked for the saffron party. TMC had denied the charges.

On Friday, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was discharged from hospital, where she was seeking treatment for injuries she sustained in Nandigram. Her party TMC has suggested BJP might be behind the 'attack' and demanded that the Election Commission (EC) launch a high-level probe into the matter. EC called TMC's report on the 'attack' incident "sketchy." Full story here.
